System Of A Down members sat down for a new interview, published on their official YouTube channel, describing the reason the band felt it was so important to support the people of Artsakh. The band says they have raised over $600,000 for the Armenia fund so far.
During that interview, the band spoke on the importance of raising awareness about the conflict in Armenia and Artsakh and how they hope that their fans and other celebrities use their platforms to speak out in support.
Notably, the band says that they have faced intimidation and threats from people online for choosing to support their stated cause. The band says they believe artists like Nas, Justin Bieber, Cardi B, and Elton John have “pulled back” their support for these causes because of the intimidation they faced.
Bassist Shavo Odadjian said “All these bots start hitting, and that’s why the celebrities who actually got into this and wanted to back us — Nas, Justin Bieber I think, Elton John, Cardi B, they all pulled back. Because they were afraid because they got death threats. I get death threats in my DMs.”
