Static-X have come back together to create something really special and honor the memory of founding member and front man Wayne Static.
The new vocalist Xer0 hides behind a Wayne Static mask, with hair and all. And for those that have seen the live performances, agree that it’s an amazing way to honor Wayne. In the beginning nobody knew for sure who was behind the mask, although many had their guesses. But Static-X wasn’t going to reveal the identity and that still sticks today.
Back in 2019 a photographer captured a picture of Xer0 that showed a neck tattoo. Internet sleuths took over and confirmed what many had assumed. Edsel Dope was in fact Xer0!
Now in a new interview with SDR Show, bassist Tony Campos was asked why they will not confirm Xer0’s identity. Campos said, “Yeah, but I still like to keep that distinction, ‘cause, again, I’m trying to keep the focus [on remembering Wayne].”
Campos said there were actually others in consideration to be the new vocalist. “I had a few ideas in my head, but he was the first to come up and actually demonstrate that he could do the job. So I was, like, ‘I don’t think I need to look any further.’ [Laughs]”
“It was definitely a talking point, for sure,” Campos said of the negativity spewing from the internet. “But I think once people heard our story and heard that Wayne’s family had given us their blessing to do what we were doing, and then once they actually saw it, I think that was the big turning point. Once people came out and experienced the show and saw what we were doing, I think it made most of those people turn around.”
