Earlier in the week it was reported that Pearl Jamm, a tribute band covering Pearl Jam, had received a cease and desist letter from the latter band’s lawyers. In the letter they demanded that all merchandise, websites and e-mail domains with the name Pearl Jamm, be handed over immediately. They claim that the long time tribute band was “damaging their brand”.
After writing a heartfelt letter to the real Pearl Jam, stating their side of things, the tribute band has decided to end the drama by changing their name to….Legal Jam. Is it snarky? Maybe, but it’s also really funny and clever.
The band took to Instagram to advise fans of the change saying: “We have always been clear that we will ‘Yield’ to Pearl Jam’s demands and equally clear that our disappointment was only ever of the timing and manner in which those demands were made.
“We are proud to announce our new name: Legal Jam which we thought would be fitting and under which we will continue to perform the music of Pearl Jam in the most heartfelt and authentic way.
“We look forward to reconnecting with our own fans (and other tributes) who have been so supportive through this as well welcoming the new fans who have joined us over the last week, as soon as we are back on the road.”
What do you think about the new name?
