Machine Gun Kelly Says He Hopes His New Punk Pop Album Makes Kids Want To Grab A Guitar

“Tickets To My Downfall”, the new pop punk album by rapper Machine Gun Kelly and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, was released on September 25th, 2020.

The guitar driven pop punk album is a big change, compared to the music that MGK is known for. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s actually a lot of fun! So much so, the album went to #1 on the US Billboard, US Top Rock Albums and US Top Alternative Albums.

MGK recently did an interview with NME saying, “This album might be the reason why bands of our generation, instead of the Foo Fighters, Green Day or one of those established artists, get to headline Coachella and shit like that – because this album is gonna make the demand for guitar music go up! It’s tapped into the new generation of kids, the 13-to-18-year-olds, that those bands I just named can’t reach at this point.”

MGK also said that he spent 4 days turning this album into a musical. “It was almost like shooting 14 music videos back-to-back, but with a narrative that’s outside of my personal life stories. It focuses on other characters, and then me and [Barker] are just the narrators. It’s an interesting concept because it hasn’t been done for an album ever, maybe outside of like Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”.
