Iced Earth Guitarist Jon Schaffer Is Now In Custody Of U.S. Marshals

Iced Earth and Demons & Wizards guitarist Jon Schaffer, turned himself into authorities on January 17th in his home state of Indians. Schaffer is facing six charges for his participation in the Capitol insurrection on January 6th.

Schaffer has now been extradited back to Washington D.C. and is in custody of the U.S. Marshal Service, according to Indiana Public Media reporter, Brock E.W. Turner. Turner tweeted, “US Marshals confirmed tonight Jon Ryan Schaffer (Indiana man accused in Capitol insurrection) is in their custody. I’ll share more updates when available.”

Schaffer was photographed inside the Capitol wearing a hat that said “Oath Keepers Lifetime Member”. According to their website, the Oath Keepers are a group of former military and ex-law enforcement that “support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” However the Anti-Defamation League describes the group as  “a large but loosely organized collection of right-wing anti-government extremists who are part of the militia movement, which believes that the federal government has been coopted by a shadowy conspiracy that is trying to strip American citizens of their rights.”

Since Schaffer’s arrest, the Indiana chapter of the Oath Keepers, have released the following statement. “Indiana Oath Keepers does not and has never sponsored, planned or funded any activities that involve riots, violence or unlawful actions. No IOK members were sent to Washington DC on January 6th nor did IOK leadership ask for volunteers to travel to Washington DC. IOK encourages the rule of law by supporting law enforcement and emergency response personnel in the lawful exercise of their duties. The individual arrested in Columbus, Indiana and was wearing an Oath Keepers (not Indiana Oath Keepers) hat in the US Capitol building on January 6th is NOT a member of Indiana Oath Keepers.”
