For the past couple of months, David Lee Roth has been sharing paintings he’s done on Twitter. It’s his way to exercise his creative being and post his personal feelings about the times we are living in and all of the anxiety that has bubbled up in 2020.
Today Roth posted a new painting to Twitter. This one is inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic and the protests over George Floyd’s death. In this piece Roth said he is changing his name! He will now be known as David L. Roth or just El Roth. He said that the inspiration to change his name came from the change that Lady Antebellum or now known as Lady A, made last week.
For those not aware, Lady A, changed their name last week as a way to acknowledge Black American history. The word “Antebellum” is a word used to describe the pro-slavery South. Though Lady A never meant it as such, they were referring to the 19th century architecture, they realized that not everyone sees the word in that way.
Roth’s newest piece of art states: David ‘Lee’ Roth changes name! Diamond Dave, following Lady Antebellum’s now (Lady A) example, will be dropping the ‘Lee’. From now on, he wants us all to call him ‘David L. Roth’ or simply ‘El Roth..”
